Do prostitutes really work for £10 an hour?
Tis the season to be jolly, Fa, la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la. Well, it seems even journalists take this Christmas carol literally as many newspaper articles around Christmas time appear very half-hearted, lacklustre and seemingly lack any research. It is as though they are taking it easy during this time and by January 2, they gather enough momentum to shock us out of our wits.
You can tell that Christmas spirit affects even the witty among us based on type of articles generated from the press. For example an article in the Daily Mail had the headline, “Whitehall Ad For Call Girls”. The article was about an advertisement listed on a government website for prostitute that paid £10 per hour. The only requirement for applicants was that they needed to enjoy having sex. The article clearly lacked any investigation and left readers with a lot of unanswered questions such as, “Who checks the advertisements that are posted on the website? And “Do prostitutes really work for £10 an hour?”
If this story was done after all the holiday celebrations, it’s almost certain that the journalist who wrote the article would have delved deeper into the story. Thankfully, a commentor on the online version of the newspaper answered one of the questions that many readers were dying to know. Apparently, women who work as escorts charge at least £345 per hour. Sex is however not a part of the deal!
